Short answer

A CEFR assessment for companies measures every person's English on the same A1 to C2 scale, so a whole organisation is benchmarked to one standard. With International English Test you buy credits, invite teams by link or email, and read CEFR levels across the business in a shared dashboard, with a verifiable certificate for each result.

01Why One Standard

Why put your company on one CEFR standard

The CEFR is the shared scale the wider world already uses for English. If you want the full background on what it is and what each level means, our CEFR guide covers it; here is why it works as a company standard.

One comparable scale

A CEFR level means the same thing in every office and every language, so a B2 in one country reads as a B2 in another. That is what turns scattered impressions of English into a single number you can compare.

A defensible benchmark

Because each level is defined by what a person can do, a CEFR result is easy to explain to a manager and to stand behind with an auditor or a client, rather than an in-house rating no one else recognises.

A baseline you can move

Benchmark once and you have a starting point. Re-test after training and the shift in CEFR levels shows whether the investment moved the needle, in a currency the whole business understands.

02How It Works

From credits to a company benchmark

01

Buy credits

Top up your Assessment Center with the number of tests your benchmark needs. Pricing is volume-based from £8.99 per test, with no contract or subscription.

02

Invite your teams

Send invitations by link or email to the people or departments you want to benchmark. They take the test in any browser, with nothing to install.

03

Benchmark in one dashboard

Read CEFR levels across the organisation in one place, compare teams or sites on the same scale, and export the picture for a board pack or a training plan.

03The Assessment

A benchmark instrument, not a blunt grade

Behind every CEFR level is the International English Placement Test: a 50-question, 50-minute assessment that reports on a fine eight-band scale, so a company sees not just the level but how far each person sits from the next one. It is built to separate levels cleanly and reports on the CEFR scale from A1 to C2.

International English Test is an ALTE Associate Member, and every result is aligned to the CEFR, the framework used by employers and institutions in 210+ countries. That is a statement about the standard behind the benchmark, not a claim that any body requires it.

Assurance to match the stakes

The same assessment carries three levels of identity and supervision, so a broad baseline and a compliance-grade result are not held to the same overhead.

Standard

The assessment is taken online without supervision, with identity as declared. It suits a company-wide baseline, where you want a fast, honest read of where English sits across teams.

ID-Verified

Identity is checked before a certificate is issued, so a benchmark that feeds pay, promotion or compliance rests on a confirmed name rather than an assumption.

Proctored

A supervised sitting for the highest-stakes cases, where the CEFR level has to be defensible to an auditor or a regulator, not just useful internally.

05The Certificate

A benchmark you can stand behind

Each result can be issued as a certificate that states the CEFR level and carries a unique ID and a QR code. That turns an internal benchmark into something a client, an auditor or a regulator can confirm on a public verification page.

  • One CEFR scale (A1 to C2) across every team
  • Unique ID and QR code for online verification
  • Exportable for board packs and training plans

Frequently asked questions

What is a CEFR assessment for a company?

It is an English assessment that reports each person's level on the CEFR scale (A1 to C2), run across a company so that everyone is measured on the same standard. Instead of a patchwork of self-ratings, you get one comparable level per person that managers, auditors and clients all understand.

How is this different from a hiring test?

The mechanics are the same, but the purpose is broader. A hiring test screens individual candidates; a company CEFR assessment benchmarks a whole workforce or team so you can see the overall picture, set standards and measure training. You can use the same credits for both.

Should we set one CEFR level for the entire company?

Usually not a single bar for everyone, because roles differ. Benchmark the whole workforce to see the real distribution, then set target levels per role family. Our guide to CEFR levels for hiring covers how to choose a level for each role.

Can we measure the effect of English training?

Yes. Benchmark before training to establish a baseline, then re-test afterwards. Because both results sit on the CEFR scale, the change in levels is a clear, comparable measure of whether the training worked.

Are the results verifiable?

Yes. Every result can be issued as a certificate with a unique ID and a QR code that resolve to a public verification page, so a level can be confirmed by anyone who needs to check it. International English Test is an ALTE Associate Member and every result is aligned to the CEFR.
