Employee English Assessment

A CV says B2. An interview says maybe. This gives you a CEFR level you can actually rely on for every person on your team, so English decisions rest on a checked figure rather than a guess.

Short answer

Employee English assessment measures how well the people you employ actually use English, and reports it as a CEFR level from A1 to C2 rather than a self-description. With International English Test you buy credits, invite your team by link or email, and read verified CEFR results in a shared dashboard, usually within minutes of each person finishing.

01How It Works

Three steps, from credits to CEFR results

The whole flow lives in one place, with no setup fees and nothing for your candidates to install.

01

Buy credits

Top up your Assessment Center with the number of tests you need. Pricing is volume-based from £8.99 per test, with no contract, subscription or seat minimum.

02

Invite your team

Share a single link or send email invitations to the people you want to assess. They take the test in any browser, with nothing to install and no account of their own to create.

03

Read CEFR results in your dashboard

Each person's CEFR level and skill breakdown appear in one shared dashboard, usually within minutes of them finishing, ready to export or act on.

02The Assessment

A benchmark built to separate levels cleanly

The engine behind it is the International English Placement Test, a 50-question, 50-minute assessment that places each person on a granular eight-band scale instead of a single blunt grade. It is designed as a benchmarking instrument, tuned so that a B1 reads differently from a B2 and a strong B2 is not mistaken for a C1, and it reports on the CEFR scale from A1 to C2.

International English Test is an ALTE Associate Member, and every result is aligned to the CEFR, the framework used by employers and institutions in 210+ countries. That describes the standard behind the score, not a claim that any particular body requires it.

Choose the level of assurance the decision needs

The same assessment can carry three levels of identity and supervision, so a quick internal check and a high-stakes hire are not held to the same overhead.

Standard

The test is taken online and unsupervised, with identity as declared by the candidate. This suits internal placement, training needs analysis and early-stage screening, where a fast, honest CEFR reading is what you need.

ID-Verified

The candidate's identity is confirmed before the certificate is issued, so the name on the result is checked against a document. Use it when the level will follow the person into a hiring or compliance decision.

Proctored

A supervised session for higher-stakes decisions, where you need assurance that the right person sat the test under controlled conditions. It is the most rigorous tier of trust the platform offers.

04The Certificate

A result a manager can verify, not just read

Each passing result can be issued as a certificate that states the CEFR level and carries a unique ID and a QR code. A hiring manager, an auditor or a client can check it on a public verification page, so the level does not rely on trust in a screenshot.

  • Clear CEFR level (A1 to C2) with a skill breakdown
  • Unique ID and QR code for online verification
  • Reflects reading and listening comprehension

05Where Teams Use It

One assessment, three common jobs

Hiring screening

Put a consistent CEFR bar in front of every applicant before interviews, so a strong CV does not have to stand in for evidence of English.

Annual audit

Benchmark a whole department or site once a year to see where English actually sits, and to measure the effect of any training you run.

Promotion criteria

Attach an objective English level to roles that need it, so a move into a client-facing or documentation-heavy job rests on a checked level rather than an impression.

06Pricing

Pay for the tests you actually use

Pricing is credit-based and volume-tiered: from £8.99 per test at higher volumes, up to around £11.99 for small runs, with no contract, subscription or seat minimum. You buy the credits you need and spend them whenever a candidate is ready.

Exact per-credit rates depend on the pack size you choose; the figures here are a guide rather than a fixed quote.

Frequently asked questions

Can we share the results with a manager or client?

Yes. Every result sits in your dashboard, where you can export a candidate's CEFR level and skill breakdown, and issue a verifiable certificate the person or a third party can confirm online. You decide who sees what.

Can an employee retake the test?

Yes. Each attempt uses one credit, so you can allow a retake after training or if a session was interrupted. You control how many attempts you fund and when.

What language are the instructions in?

The assessment and its on-screen instructions are in English throughout, because the point is to measure English. There is no translation layer, so the reading load is part of what the level reflects.

How is candidate data handled?

Candidates are invited by you and take the test through your Assessment Center, and their data is processed to produce and store the result you paid for. Personal data is handled under GDPR; contact us if you need a data processing agreement for your records.

How does invoicing work?

You buy credits from the Assessment Center and receive an invoice for the purchase, with no subscription running in the background. For larger volumes we can arrange an invoice and bank transfer rather than card payment.
