CEFR A2 Writing Prompts: Tasks and Model Answers [2026]

At A2 level, writing is about producing short, connected text on everyday topics. You are past single sentences now: the step up is joining your ideas with simple linkers and handling both the present and the past. This guide gives common A2 writing prompts with short model answers at the right level. Change the details so each one is true for you, and keep the language simple and correct.

Describe where you live

Write a few sentences about your town or city.

Model answer: I live in a small town in the north of the country. It is quiet and friendly, and there is a nice park near my house. We have a few shops and two cafés, but there is no cinema. I like living here because it is calm, but sometimes it is a little boring for young people.

Write a postcard

Write a short postcard from a holiday.

Model answer: Dear Sam, I am having a great time in Spain. The weather is hot and sunny, and the food is delicious. Yesterday we went to the beach and swam in the sea. Tomorrow we want to visit an old castle. See you next week. Love, Ana.

Write an email to a friend

Invite a friend to your birthday.

Model answer: Hi Leo, I am having a small party for my birthday on Saturday. It starts at seven o'clock at my flat. There will be food and music, and some other friends are coming too. Can you come? Please let me know. Thanks, Marco.

Describe your last weekend

Write about what you did last weekend.

Model answer: Last weekend was busy. On Saturday morning I cleaned the house, and then I went shopping with my sister. In the evening we cooked dinner for our parents. On Sunday I stayed at home because it rained, so I watched films and read a book. It was a nice, relaxing day.

Your daily routine and free time

Write about a normal day and what you like doing.

Model answer: On weekdays I get up at seven and start work at nine. I usually have lunch at one o'clock with my colleagues. After work I go to the gym or meet friends. In my free time I like cooking and listening to music. At the weekend I often visit my family.

How to practise these

Write your own answer to each prompt before you look at the model, and try to join your sentences with and, but, because, so and then instead of writing them separately. Check that you use the past simple when the task is about last weekend, and the present simple for your routine.
