CEFR A2 Speaking Topics: 25 Prompts to Build Confidence [2026]
A2 speaking is where you start to tell small stories about your life rather than just state facts. You can talk about a holiday you took, a film you saw, or a meal you enjoyed, and you can say why you liked it. That means two things beginners do not yet have: the past tense, and simple reasons. Practising both aloud is what turns the memorised phrases of A1 into real, flexible speech.
These 25 prompts cover the topics an A2 speaker meets most, grouped by area, each with a short model answer. Say each one aloud before reading the model, and try to include one past verb and one reason.

How to use these
Answer each prompt in three or four sentences, always with one past verb and one reason, then record yourself and check both are there. That habit, past tense plus a because, is the core of A2 speaking. For the level below, see A1 speaking topics. Speaking is the skill hardest to judge from the inside, so our English levels A1 to C2 guide sets out what each stage sounds like and turns a vague sense of progress into something you can measure yourself against.
