35 Airport Vocabulary Words in English for Travellers [2026]
Airports run on a compressed, announcement-style English that is hard to follow even for confident speakers. The words come fast, over crackly speakers, and each one can change what you need to do next. Missing a single term, gate change, final call, can mean a missed flight. The vocabulary is small and specific, and knowing it by sound as well as by sight is what turns an airport from stressful to routine.
This guide groups 35 airport words into the three stages of a departure: check-in, security, and boarding.
