The Listening section of Eng4Skills evaluates your ability to understand spoken English in various contexts. This part of the test features both short and long audio recordings, allowing you to hear each recording twice for better comprehension.
What You'll Do
Listen to Short Recordings:
- —Hear brief conversations, announcements, or statements.
- —For each question, choose the correct answer from three options.
Listen to Longer Recordings:
- —Hear extended dialogues, monologues, or discussions.
- —Answer multiple-choice questions based on the recording.
What Is Tested

- —Contextual Understanding: Identifying the purpose and tone of the speaker.
- —Listening for Key Details: Picking out specific information such as numbers, dates, and names.
- —Inference Skills: Deducting meaning even when information isn't explicitly stated.
Example Tasks
- 1.Listen to a short announcement. Identify key details, such as time, location, or purpose.
- 2.Listen to a longer dialogue or speech. Answer multiple-choice questions in the order of the recording.
- 3.Listen to a short conversation about an event. Choose the correct option that best represents the speaker's intention.
The Reading section of Eng4Skills evaluates your ability to understand and analyze texts of varying lengths and complexities. This section tests both your understanding of content and your ability to apply grammatical rules in context.
What You'll Do
Read and Interpret Texts:
- —Notices, diagrams, labels, notes, and emails.
- —Choose the sentence or phrase that best matches the meaning of the text.
Complete Gaps in Texts:
- —Sentences with missing words — select the correct word from four options.
- —Longer texts with gaps — identify the best word or phrase to complete each gap.
Answer Questions About Texts:
- —After reading longer passages, answer multiple-choice questions based on the content.
What Is Tested
- —Comprehension: Understanding the main ideas and details in written texts.
- —Vocabulary and Grammar: Recognizing correct use of verbs, tenses, nouns, adjectives, and prepositions.
- —Cohesion: Understanding how words and phrases connect sentences and paragraphs.
- —Contextual Understanding: Using context to deduce the meaning of unfamiliar words or phrases.

The Writing section of Eng4Skills evaluates your ability to express ideas clearly and accurately in written English. This section focuses on grammar, vocabulary, structure, and coherence. Your answers are typed directly into the answer text box on screen.
What You'll Do
Part 1: Writing a Short Email
- —Read a short email and write a reply using three main points.
- —Minimum 50 words · approximately 5 minutes.
- —Example: Responding to a colleague's request for information.
Part 2: Writing a Longer Response
- —Read a short text providing a situation and three main points. Write a detailed response.
- —Minimum 180 words · approximately 10 minutes.
- —Example: Writing a review, article, or opinion piece.
What Is Tested
- —Grammar and Vocabulary: Use appropriate structures and a wide range of vocabulary.
- —Content and Relevance: Address all points in the task and provide relevant, well-organized ideas.
- —Organization and Cohesion: Use paragraphs and linking words to structure your response logically.
- —Task Achievement: Meet the word count and follow the instructions for each part.

The Speaking section of Eng4Skills evaluates your ability to communicate effectively in spoken English across a variety of tasks. Your responses are recorded and scored automatically using AI, with results provided within 48 hours.
What You'll Do
Part 1: Personal Questions
- —Answer 8 questions about yourself.
- —10 seconds for Q1–4, 20 seconds for Q5–8. First two questions are not graded.
Part 2: Sentence Reading
- —Read 8 sentences displayed on the screen.
- —10 seconds per sentence. Tests pronunciation, stress, rhythm, and intonation.
Part 3: Speaking About a Topic
- —Speak for one minute about a topic with three guiding points.
- —40 seconds preparation time.
Part 4: Speaking About a Graphic
- —Describe and discuss a chart, diagram, or process.
- —1-minute preparation, 1-minute response.
Part 5: Answering Questions on a Topic
- —Respond to 5 questions about a topic based on provided key points.
- —40 seconds preparation, 20 seconds per answer.
What Is Tested
- —Fluency and Coherence: Speaking clearly and organizing ideas logically.
- —Pronunciation: Correct stress, rhythm, and intonation.
- —Vocabulary: Using a range of appropriate words and expressions.
- —Grammar: Using accurate sentence structures.

Eng4Skills uses the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) to evaluate your English proficiency, giving you a grade from Below A1 to C1 or above. Each CEFR level is linked to specific Eng4Skills test scores.
Instead of a printed certificate, you receive an automatically generated Test Report Form. Depending on the institution or place where you take the test, you may also access your results online.
